The G-DRIVE mini is made for use on the go with a solid aluminum enclosure and it weighs less than 9 oz total, a leather carrying case is also included. The enclosure itself has been designed as a heat sink to dissipate heat from the drive which means it runs totally silent(fanless). This drive is optimized for use with Macintosh computers with OS X, as it comes pre-formatted with HFS+ with Journaling and is Time Machine ready, just plug in the Firewire and go.

Unfortunately for Windows XP users the drive must be reformatted with a third party program before it can be used, unlike Windows Vista which supports the G-DRIVE mini right out of the box. No AC power is needed as it gets it's power through the USB/Firewire connection. However, for drives 120 gb and greater USB will not be able to power it and therefore an AC adapter, of which there is a connection on the drive, would be necessary. Firewire connections will always maintain power with larger drives.
