Hitachi X Mobile
$59.99
Released September, 2009
The Pros:Quiet and cool running external drive, but perhaps draws too much power (see cons). Attractive exterior design, except for the bright LED lights on the underside. Simple to setup, plug and play, no bloatware included.
The Cons:Has to be powered by a Y cable (provided). In some cases due to the computer itself, the Y cable does not provide enough power either, and Hitachi does not provide a power adapter with the package. Bright LED lights that does not to much.
The Hitachi X Mobile is a portable external HDD. The textured body of this HDD is designed to make it easier to get a grip on. The X Mobile will work with your laptop's USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports, and the USB cable is included.

As this external HDD is USB powered, you do not need an adapter. The X Mobile is compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP, as well as Mac OS X 10.3 or newer. This external HDD differs from the Hitachi XL Desk in that it is made for portable computer use (and so is USB powered as opposed to adapter powered), has a smaller form factor (2.5 inches as opposed to 3.5 inches) and has model variations with lower capacities than the XL Desk (which goes up to 2TB). The Hitachi X Mobile comes in a black color.
