HP Pocket Media Drive

$130.00 Released January, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:No power cords needed, although a second USB connection is possible for extra power draw and faster performance. Read and write time maximizes the USB 2.0 bandwidth. Fully compatible with both Mac and PC.

The Cons:Computer registration process at the beginning is unnecessarily complicated. Takes some time to Eject, there's always a pause and sometimes the command has to be given twice.

The HP Pocket Media Drive is a compact, portable external hard-disc drive that retails in several sizes from 80GB up to 500GB. It is in essence the smaller cousin to the larger HP Personal Media Drive.

It also connects by USB, as well as direct in-chassis—this only works with specialized HP computers. Included also is Windows backup & encryption software. It doesn’t necessarily have to be used though; the device can work with ANY computer, including Macintosh, with just a simple click and drag file transfer. Other points to consider are an included black carrying case, a 1-year warranty on the hardware, and USB 1.1 backwards-compatibility.
