The Automatic Encryption System (256 bit) of the HDPNC-HSU encrypts all the information you store onto the HDD, and so the information cannot be accessed by anyone without your password.

Even if the device is completely opened up, there is no way for unwanted eyes to see your information if they do not know the password. I-O Data also emphasizes the ease of use of this HDD. Because this device requires no installation, you can use it on any PC. There is a button on the side that opens the device and allows you to quickly bring up the password screen. Though they have essentially the same specs, the HDPNC-HSU is ten grams heavier than the higher cost HDPNC-U (320g as opposed to 310g), and is not compatible with Mac operating systems.
