The LaCie LaCinema Black RECORD is an external HDD with A/V playback, as well as TV tuning and recording. The LaCIe LaCinema Black RECORD connects to the user's computer over USB at which point the user can manually transfer media and other files to the device's 500GB or 1TB hard drive.

The RECORD then can be connected to a television; once connected it can playback media stored on the device itself, or on networked PC or Mac (and Linux, with tinkering) through its UPnP client. The RECORD connects to a home network via its built-in WiFi or Ethernet port, and will upconvert SD video to 1080i. Unlike its highly similar compatriot, the LaCinema Black PLAY, the RECORD can also view and record TV through its S-Video or composite video inputs. It has a time-shift feature that allows the user to record the beginning of a show even after the show has started. The device, however, does not have commercial skip.
