Protect mode runs as two separate drives, with the second one backing up data from the first drive as it is recorded. This ensures there is always a backup of everything you put on it but it also means you only have one drive to work with. Speed mode recognizes both drives as one drive which allows for double the storage and is much faster considering no backup is being done. Connection options include USB 2.0 and 3Gbit eSATA, and an AC inlet is also available. As with all SimpleTech external drives, an online backup account is included with 2GB of free storage which can be upgraded to unlimited for roughly five dollars a month. Included software is used to interface with the server called Fabrik Ultimate Backup and it can run in the background, backing up files as you work. Fabrik Local Backup is also included which can be set to backup any set of file types from any specified location, also running in the background. Data intensive applications, typically audio or video editing are what would benefit most from a drive like this as well as any type of security sensitive document backups. A security lock slot is also included for locking the drive in a safe place.

BHWA: #simpletech_duo_pro_drive Bought one DUO PRO 2 TB today. Went home, formatted it (for the MAC). Proceeded to import movie clips to the TB Drive. The power cut off the drive half way through the tape import. Did not come back on. Will return the drive to the store tomorrow. Reading other reviews of the product, its track record as well as the company FRABRIK is poor. Dec 30, 09
