The Verbatim FireWire/USB Desktop Hard Drive is a 7200RPM, external hard-disc drive built for storing large quantities of data. It retails in a 500GB and 1TB format and is not meant as much for traveling, as it is for serving as an affordable secondary HDD.

It offers two connections: USB 2.0 @ 480Mb/s or FireWire 400 @ 400Mb/s. And it requires no external power, as it is receives energy directly from a connected computer unit. It is backwards compatible with USB 1.1, but Verbatim recommends using the 400/USB only with the following operating systems: Windows 2000, XP, or Vista; Mac OS 9x or Mac OS X 10.1+. Note also that the drive comes with CMS BounceBack Express Backup Software for scheduling, backup sets, and automatic launch options.
Additional Information
You'll notice that this model retails at a more affordable rate versus the Verbatim FireWire 400/USB. The reason is that although this HDD is faster (7200RPM) and can hold larger quantities of data, it is NOT RECOMMENDED for portable use.
