Verbatim Quad-Interface Desktop Hard Drive
$180.00
Released January, 2009
The Pros:Robust metal construction feels more durable than plastic competing models. Very quiet during operation, almost silent. Four possible data transfer protocols greatly increases compatibility and speeds with various computers.
The Cons:Some units have trouble connecting to Macs running Snow Leopard or Lion. Prone to driver errors and shutdowns. Tends to become louder during operation as its life lengthens.
The Verbatim Professional Quad-Interface Desktop Hard Drive is an external hard-drive disc with four available interfaces. It connects by USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, AND eSATA. The eSATA connection provides the fastest data transfer rate at up to 3000 Mb/s.

The other interfaces are quite slower, but allow for various connectivity options—depending on what the user needs. Included with the unit are a durable aluminum casing and a silent cooling fan, which is especially vital if using the eSATA connection; it can cause the drive to get quite hot. Also keep in mind that the Quad-Interface unit comes with Nero BackItUp software, which incorporates scheduling, backup sets, and even data encryption.
Additional Information
This unit is rather pricey. If you don't intend to use the eSATA connection, then it's highly recommended that you consider the Verbatim FireWire/USB Desktop Hard Drive model instead.
