As a downgrade from the Passport Elite, the Essential throws out the docking station and capacity gauge in favor of affordability. However, connectivity is also based off USB 2.0 technology. Plus, the Essential hosts Western Digital’s SmartWare software, which ensures data is both safe and backed up at all times.
